PODs in Service JIP features 'unique' grouping of interests

New azimuthing electric drives have proven to be highly efficient, with vessel lay-out and reduction of noise and vibration; now a new Joint Industry Project will look closely at safety and reliability of podded propulsors, assessing hydrostructural loads on pod and vessel hulls under operational and extreme conditions.Measurement of propeller blade strains, shaft loads and underwater noise will also be studied.
