Autonomous shipping is a much-debated topic and undoubtedly the industry has high expectations about this development. With an increasing demand for further efficiency, higher productivity and improved safety, autonomous shipping studies and projects are growing. Report interviews Marnix Krikke, Innovation & Human Capital Director from Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT) about recent fullscale trials and how the Dutch maritime industry is keen to be at the forefront of the move towards autonomous shipping.

NMT is the Dutch trade association focusing on maritime technology and has more than 400 members, including shipyards, marine equipment suppliers and service providers. Before joining NMT in 2007, Marnix spent 17 years with the Dutch Ministry of Defence where he was involved in a number of Research & Development projects for the Royal Netherlands Navy, and this was when he began working alongside MARIN.
