Wind propulsion is emerging as one of the key pathways to decarbonise shipping. With increasing regulatory pressure and rapidly improving technologies, the market is developing fast: nearly 100 ships worldwide are now equipped with wind-assisted systems, and the fleet is expected to double every year.
But how accurately can we predict the performance of these vessels? This is one of the central questions in the WiSP3 project. A crucial element is the aerodynamic behaviour itself, with wind tunnel testing as a primary assessment method.
To deepen our understanding of good wind tunnel testing practices and correction procedures, WiSP3 is organising a benchmark study using one or more dedicated test models. We invite interested parties to participate in this benchmark. Please register or contact Rogier Eggers with any questions or comments.
