Offshore maintenance II

Closed

The main objective of the Maintenance Vessel JIP is to determine operational criteria for a range of maintenance vessels and apply these criteria to select the most suitable maintenance vessel for each job.

background

While more and more offshore wind parks are installed and operated, maintenance on the wind turbines is required to maximise the energy yield from the fields. The maintenance work comes in large varieties: from replacements to repairs. Each maintenance operation requires its own specialist and specialised vessel.

OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the Maintenance Vessel JIP is to determine operational criteria for a range of maintenance vessels and apply these criteria to select the most suitable maintenance vessel for each job.
Operational criteria include human factors as well as limitations to the vessel and its equipment. The operability (uptime/downtime) of each maintenance vessel will be calculated, which can be put against the charter or operational costs of the vessel.

PARTNERS
The Offshore Maintenance JIP is initiated by research partners ECN, TNO and MARIN. Furthermore the research is performed in close cooperation with the Carbon Trust, the offshore wind accelerator from the UK, representing most of the large Energy companies in Europe active in Offshore Wind. Participants to the project consist of designers of workboats, operators of workboats, companies providing industrial personal, companies providing onboard measurement equipment and environmental predictions. At the moment the consortium consists of 14 participants and more are still welcome.

DELIVERABLES
As a deliverable of the JIP the participants will be provided with existing ECN operability and cost prediction model extended with realistic vessel response based on hydrodynamics and realistic human reponse based on physiological research. The participants will be provided with the existing ECN O&M Tool in an early stage of the JIP and updates along the progress of the project.
