On May 28th 2024, His Majesty King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands officially opened the new Seven Oceans Simulator centre (SOSc) of MARIN. https://www.marin.nl/en/about/facilities-and-tools/simulators. This centre houses several maritime bridge simulators, different types of virtual and augmented reality systems and hexapod motion platforms. With this new state of the art and unique research facility MARIN stays at the forefront of studying and training complex nautical and offshore operations. In this new flexible research facility clients are offered a possibility to test and preview how new ships, solutions and operations perform in practice. The aim is ‘making maritime operations safer, cleaner and more efficient through offering the most realistic simulations of hydrodynamic behaviour of and interactions between ships/maritime constructions, the environment and humans.’

Who will be your colleagues?
You will be working in a team of eight developers. Next to your team there are three project managers, two team leaders, three ICT specialists and six project engineers in the department. Together you will be working with colleagues from other MARIN departments.

What are you going to do?
You will join our Software Engineering team within the Simulation & Visualisation department. This team develops the real time DOLPHIN simulation software that drives bridge simulators at MARIN and various third-party facilities around the world. The facilities are used to simulate the full range of maritime operations. From simple ship handling to complex multi-player offshore lifting operations. You will integrate new hardware, add new features and work on projects using the DOLPHIN software.

Who are we looking for?
  • You have a degree in software engineering, or similar relevant working experience.
  • Working on challenging projects in various teams energizes you.
  • You are proud of the software you write and feel responsible for the result. As such, initiating improvements and new developments comes naturally to you, and you always aim to find the best solution for a problem or request.
  • You communicate clearly in Dutch or English.
  • You enjoy working on many parts of a large (1 MLOC) code base, written in C++ and C#/WPF.
