Are you the researcher Applied Maritime AI that will convert data, simulations and knowledge into impact for the Maritime Industry?

Who will your colleagues be?
You will be working within the Waves, Ocean Engineering and Seakeeping (WOS) team of the Research & Development department, which is broadly focussed on applied research in these domains. In this role, you will work closely together with developers of our simulation and AI tooling as well as researchers and domain specialists. You will take the lead in pioneering the research and application of our latest AI/DS developments into the maritime domain. Furthermore, you will engage intensively with colleagues from other departments to translate industry needs into new AI solutions. These joint efforts are typically carried out through EU consortia, Joint Industry Projects, Defence programs and internal research initiatives.

What will your work involve?
You will work at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and Ship & Offshore hydrodynamics. You will have a solid domain expertise in (time-domain) simulations and are able to independently carry out these simulations together with your colleagues from other departments. Furthermore, you will apply and co-develop AI/DS methods to tackle real-world challenges, with a strong focus on practical implementation and delivering impactful solutions. Your work will make use of a wide range of data sources including operational data and measurements in our model test facilities. Furthermore, you will generate synthetic datasets using our in-house tooling and apply them in your AI activities. A key focus will be on time-series data and computer vision applications. In addition, you will contribute to developments in digital twins, control and mission strategies and the application of AI for autonomous vessels.

What do we offer?
  • A stimulating environment which will allow you to develop while maintaining the freedom to choose your own path.
  • The salary will be between € 3.700 and € 6.600 (depending on knowledge and experience).

  • Development through training courses, further education and coaching.
  • Flexibility in working hours and a hybrid working arrangement, to support your work-life balance.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a domain expert in one of the following maritime domains: wave modelling, ship hydrodynamics, offshore O&G and renewable energy systems and/or vessel autonomy. Furthermore, a solid understanding of modern machine learning and deep learning techniques is expected, while experience with advanced architectures and reinforcement learning is considered an advantage. You possess solid software engineering skills, including proficiency in version control systems and best practices in clean, structured coding. You will be an ambassador for the application of AI/DS methods for maritime applications, both internally and externally. You have a pro-active and creative attitude and are able to smoothly collaborate with other experts. Furthermore, you are able to recognize and capitalize on opportunities for novel AI/DS applications in the maritime sector.
