We are looking for a project manager to strengthen MARIN’s Marine Systems Team. You will work in projects related to innovative and future-proof power, propulsion and energy (PPE) systems.

Who will your colleagues be?
You’ll join the Ships department, a team of about 100 professionals organised in specialised teams. Your direct colleagues are a group of experts (project managers and specialists) on hydrodynamics and power systems concept design. You work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment where clear communication, honesty and mutual respect are paramount.

What will your work involve?
MARIN’s Marine Systems Team focuses on advising our clients about the integration of innovative systems on board ships to meet increasingly stringent environmental criteria. You are involved in the exploration and concept design phase of alternative energy and power systems. You understand the client’s needs and, together with a dedicated project team, you assess which technologies and power architectures suit best to satisfy the vessel’s mission profiles and regulatory frameworks. The functional design of the power and supporting systems is also important as you aim for their robust integration on board. To keep overview in this multi-disciplinary design approach, you and the project team keep track via MBSE tools.

You write project proposals by defining the activities required to achieve the client’s objectives. You perform technical tasks, but also guide a dedicated project team of experts to a successful project execution. You manage internal/external stakeholders' relations and expectations. You are responsible for the planning and budget of your projects. You take decisions after consulting with the experts that support you in the project team.

Besides your market-driven orientation, you also work in research consortia to develop and strengthen MARIN knowledge around innovative technologies and create meaningful partnerships with other organisations. You contribute to the development of MARIN knowledge, services, tools and numerical models.

What do we offer?
  • A stimulating environment which will allow you to develop while maintaining the freedom to choose your own path.
  • An attractive salary and benefits package, including our annual profit sharing and excellent pension scheme.
  • Lifecycle allowance of 5.55% of your gross monthly salary.
  • 29 vacation days (fulltime) + 5 scheduled days between Christmas and New Year.
  • Development through training courses, further education and coaching.
  • Flexibility in working hours and a hybrid working arrangement, to support your work-life balance.

Who are we looking for?
You have an engineering background (naval, mechanical, electrical or system integration). As you will collaborate with experts from different disciplines, you combine your technical knowledge with excellent managerial, communication and coaching skills. You have relevant working experience in the maritime application of PPE systems. Knowledge of hydrodynamics is appreciated to meaningfully integrate a robust PPE system tuned on the hydrodynamic performance of the vessel.
Experience with Matlab Simulink, Python and Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools are an important plus.

Who are we?
MARIN is a globally recognised institute in maritime research, based in Wageningen, the Netherlands. Our mission is ‘Better Ships, Blue Oceans’: we stand for clean, smart and safe shipping and sustainable use of the sea. We do this as an independent knowledge partner for the maritime sector, governments and society. We work with around 450 specialists in various fields who are proud of an open and collaborative culture in which you can explore your own ideas and take initiative.
