ContactHannes Bogaert,

Use your expertise on marine systems engineering to improve the performance of power-, propulsion- and energy (PPE) systems during operations worldwide.

What are you going to do?
You will work as a specialist in the Performance at Sea (PaS) department, going on board ships to improve the performance of power-, propulsion- and energy (PPE) systems. At PaS, we ensure that ships, structures and crews can operate cleanly, smartly and safely in their daily practice. To this end we measure, troubleshoot, develop algorithms and systems, and train crews in their usage.
The role involves drawing up specifications for on-board testing and monitoring of the performance of PPE-systems, as well as managing execution of the tests. You will analyse operational data, set up simulation models and - together with other specialists - improve the performance of PPE-systems. Other tasks will include preparation and execution of Hazards Analyses and Failure Mode Effect and Criticality Analyses. You will be expected to lead the development of decision support systems to manage PPE, acquisition of new projects and crew training.

Who are we looking for?
A passionate candidate with a Master degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering who can travel worldwide to work on board ships and offshore platforms. You should have experience in designing and engineering PPE-systems and in-depth knowledge of their verification and validation. Knowledge of alternative fuel systems is considered beneficial. In addition, you should be familiar with the latest requirements from classification societies and authorities. Experience with scripting languages such as Python is also required. You should also have a good command of the English language and be willing to learn Dutch if it is not your mother tongue.

Who are we and what do we offer?
MARIN is an independent and globally recognised institute in hydrodynamic and nautical research. Our mission is to make shipping cleaner, smarter and safer, and to contribute to the sustainable use of ports, waterways and the sea. As a member of our team of 400 specialists, you will work in a stimulating environment which will allow you to develop while maintaining the freedom to choose your own path.
