We are looking for a specialist to strengthen MARIN’s Development & Implementation efforts in power, propulsion and energy (PPE) systems. In this role, you will develop models, tools, and processes that help shape the future of the maritime sector. Do you want to contribute to smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable solutions for tomorrow’s oceans? This is your opportunity.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a systems integration engineer to contribute to PPE system design. The role is primarily desk-based and highly collaborative across disciplines. You combine an engineering bachelor's or master’s degree preferably with working experience in the maritime or industrial application of PPE systems. Experience with Matlab Simulink is a must, experience with GT-Power, Python and/or MBSE-tools is a plus.
What Excites You?
  • Driving innovation in alternative fuels, reducing emissions, and shaping the future of ship propulsion in the energy transition.
  • Working in an environment that gives you freedom and responsibility to make an impact.
  • Exploring new ideas with a curious, analytical, and hands-on mindset.
  • Switching effortlessly between big-picture strategy and detail-oriented execution.
  • Turning cutting-edge technologies into practical solutions that make a difference.

What will your work involve?
You’ll join MARIN’s Development & Implementation group, with the focus on modelling the integration of (energy) systems on board of ships. You contribute to project proposals by defining and estimating the activities required to achieve the client’s objectives in simulation, analysis, and testing
You develop and improve simulation models of our virtual Zero Emission Lab, enable validation and verification in the physical Zero Emisson Lab with hardware in the loop and use them to assess energy concepts on system level. You work on control systems as well as safety systems, fuel supply systems, exhaust gas aftertreatment and energy-recovery, and their integration.

Who will your colleagues be?
You’ll join the Ships department, a team of about 100 professionals working in smaller, specialised teams. Your direct colleagues are a group of experts on hydrodynamic and energy systems simulations. We support the business oriented teams with insights via simulations of power, propulsion and energy (PPE) systems. Our team focusses on applied research and integration of new models into the workflow. Together we develop tools and services that address pressing market questions and support MARIN’s mission of Better Ships, Blue Oceans.

What do we offer?
  • A stimulating environment which will allow you to develop while maintaining the freedom to choose your own path.
  • An attractive salary and benefits package, including our annual profit sharing and excellent pension scheme.
  • Lifecycle allowance of 5.55% of your gross monthly salary.
  • 29 vacation days (fulltime) + 5 scheduled days between Christmas and New Year.
  • Development through training courses, further education and coaching.
  • Flexibility in working hours and a hybrid working arrangement, to support your work-life balance.

Who are we?
MARIN is a globally recognised institute in maritime research, based in Wageningen, the Netherlands. Our mission is ‘Better Ships, Blue Oceans’: we stand for clean, smart and safe shipping and sustainable use of the sea. We do this as an independent knowledge partner for the maritime sector, governments and society. We work with around 450 specialists in various fields who are proud of an open and collaborative culture in which you can explore your own ideas and take initiative.
