This paper investigates the quality of waves in a square wave basin and methods to improve this. By using a linear diffraction potential-flow model the effects of the finite basin dimensions are shown and improved by optimizing the motions of the wave paddles. Finally, the effect of wave reflections due to the presence of a ship model is quantified and procedures to reduce this effect are discussed.
