Optimal stochastic control techniques are applied for dynamic positioning systems on ships. Here is shown that high frequency motions due to waves may be included in the control system, allowing better simulation of the real circumstances and to estimate bow thruster ventilation. A time domain DP simulation program is used to apply and demonstrate these developments.
