The key challenge for the maritime sector is designing from a systems viewpoint and integration of all vessel components. The design optimization process is highly versatile to ensure the vessel’s robust, efficient, and resilient operation throughout its lifespan and across various missions and environmental conditions. This paper presents the development of a modular platform for vessel system modelling, where the modelling expertise from diverse technological companies is shared without disclosing intellectual property using Function Mock-up Units (FMU). A hybrid-(diesel/electric) powered yacht, including a library of components consisting of powertrains, power electronics, and propulsion components, is developed. Furthermore, the modular simulation platform is applied by integrating an Energy Management System (EMS) designed for maritime applications. In addition, it allows for real-time parameterization, facilitating its extension into a Digital Twin environment. By utilizing the platform, maritime companies can test and integrate their proprietary components. This reduces integration risk without disclosing intellectual property.
