In this paper the current status is presented for accurate and fast determination of wind load coefficients using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Four topics are discussed: modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer, Verification and Validation study for a shuttle tanker and Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit (FPSO), a side-by-side offloading configuration and lastly a shielding model based on the single vessel CFD calculations. In general, the calculated coefficients agree well to wind tunnel experiments, indicating that it is possible to obtain accurate coefficients. The shielding model shows that CFD calculations can also be used as input for time-domain calculations or bridge simulators.
