Feadship (De Voogt Naval Architects) designed Breathe, in cooperation with Dutch research institute MARIN. With its intelligent propulsion concept and systems Breathe demonstrates that eco-consciousness and economic benefits can easily go hand in hand. The concept is characterized by simplicity and a minimum of components, reduced energy consumption for both propulsion and hotel loads and at the same time the concept guarantees a higher level of reliability and better engine load. The concept goes further by using double articulating fins inspired by nature which will be used for stabilizing at anchor and under way as well as steering. Finally a system is proposed to regenerate wave energy to electricity which will at the same time reduce ship motions.
