The main objective of the SHINING research group is to establish a benchmark and best practices for the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods to predict hydrodynamic forces acting on inland waterway ships. This paper presents selected results from the first three workshops to highlight the effect of shallow water on the hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on inland waterway ships. It emphasizes the ability of different CFD methods to capture the main flow features passing by inland waterway vessels in shallow water, considering computational accuracy and efficiency.
