Today, the TO2 institutes TNO, WUR, Deltares, NLR and MARIN present the Impact Report 2025. Published annually in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Affairs, it shows how applied research contributes to a sustainable, clean, healthy and safe future for the Netherlands.

As Vincent Karremans, Minister of Economic Affairs, states: “Our institutes for applied research and their work are indispensable. They make our country safer, healthier and more sustainable. And we all reap the benefits.”

Each institute highlights projects they are proud of. For example, NLR’s Future Force Design team helps the Ministry of Defence secure and utilize airspace. TNO developed an open-source SOAR tool to repel cyberattacks automatically. WUR created a digital application enabling food companies to produce healthier products faster and more cost-effectively, while Deltares and TNO work on new groundwater reserves to secure drinking water.

MARIN contributed to several articles in the Impact Report. These include insights on developing new knowledge for aging engineering structures and advancing safety and energy security for armed forces. The institute also addresses the challenges climate change poses for navigation on the river IJssel and shares progress on the WASP project, which continues to push innovation forward.
