The Royal Netherlands Navy is renewing and expanding its fleet. To accommodate the growing number of vessels that will be moored in the port of Den Helder in the coming years, additional berthing capacity is required. As part of this development, the Navy plans to construct four new quays within the existing Berghaven area.

To ensure that the proposed quay design performs effectively under realistic operating conditions, we carried out extensive testing using our Full Mission Bridge Simulator, supported by two Multi‑Purpose Simulators.

The online Dutch Defensie Journal features an insightful report showcasing the crew of HNLMS De Ruyter attempting to berth under wind force 7 conditions. Are the manoeuvring areas sufficient? And is there enough space for tugboats to operate safely? These simulations provided valuable answers to these questions, contributing directly to the refinement of the future quay layout.
