Model tests in MARIN’s Seakeeping and Manoeuvring Basin contribute to an increased understanding of the effect of ship motions on the passengers of a Crew Transfer Vessel and validate numerical ship motion predictions. As part of this research, mitigation measures are evaluated. One of which is the use of a foil for motion damping, seen in this video.

The operational advice tool is part of the SPOWTT project (Safety and Productivity of Offshore Wind Technician Transit), initiated by a consortium of European offshore wind and maritime industry players. SPOWTT aims to widen the workable weather window for Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV) and to improve the productivity of technicians performing service activities on offshore wind turbines.
