In collaboration with SolarDuck, we conducted model tests on a configuration of 54 interconnected floating solar platforms. The 1:20 scale model, measuring 10 by 12 metres, was tested in our Offshore Basin to simulate realistic offshore conditions.
A key innovation in this campaign is a new optical measurement system that allows us to track the motion of each individual platform. This setup provides detailed insight into wave shielding effects and inter-platform forces, supporting the refinement of floating solar designs. These tests generate valuable data to advance the development and deployment of offshore solar technology as part of the global energy transition.
