Technology only for boys? Absolutely not! To show that technical functions are also very suitable for girls, 25 girls from primary school De Vlinderboom in Ede visited MARIN during Girls' Day on March 30. They had an extensive tour, a meet & greet with our female colleagues and did an experiment in one of our test basins.

Why is Girls' Day so important?

Only 14 percent of technical professionals in the Netherlands are women. Gender stereotypes, the lack of role models and a limited view of technical education and professions play a major role in this. To change this, VHTO has created the Girls' Day. Girls' Day is an annual event where thousands of girls visit companies in science, technology and IT. On this day girls between 10 and 15 years old are encouraged to immerse themselves in the world of technology. Read about it on the VHTO website (Dutch only).
