FLoating Energy RESEARCH FORUM

FERF

Running

In the Floating Energy Reserach Forum (previoulsy FPSO Resarch Forum), energy companies such as FPSO operators, Floating Offshore Wind Turbine (FOWT) operators, contractors, yards, research institutes and safety authorities share their experience in offshore Floating Energy production. The Forum represents the complete lifecycle from concept development to operation and new research topics and challenges are discussed in an open setting.

Floating Energy: challenges & opportunities

During 25+ years we have built a strong worldwide network of offshore experts with various backgrounds. Discussions at the forum typically lead to Joint Industry Project initiatives that contribute to safe and reliable offshore designs and operations. After 25 years the time has come to focus on a wider application than just FPSOs and we include floating renewable energy systems as well. With these projects we keep improving monitoring, inspection and regulation of energy structures such as FPSOs, FOWT and floating solar systems. We do this by developing knowledge that leads to innovations with the objective to de-risks floating energy technology development.

The Forum was initiated by the participants in the FPSO Integrity JIP in 1998 and has been meeting twice a year since. Today the Forum’s open meetings form a part of the Floating Energy Research JIP week in which Joint Industry Projects related to floating energy R&D have their progress meetings. The FER JIP week and Forum meetings are hosted by one of the participating companies.
