Christiaan van der Gaag is a maritime risk assessment specialist at MARIN. After graduating in Mathematics from Radboud University Nijmegen, he gained experience as a data scientist before joining MARIN in 2023. Since then, he has specialized in maritime risk assessment and the development and application of the SAMSON model. Christiaan is involved in a wide range of projects related to offshore platforms, offshore wind farms, and navigational safety. His expertise includes AIS-based traffic analysis, traffic modelling and probabilistic risk assessment. He contributes to the continued development and application of the SAMSON model, supporting industry and government in understanding and managing maritime safety risks.
