General information
Mine sweepers or Mine hunters sizes range from 1200 ton to rather low displacement small vessels for operation in harbour entries. Maximum speeds of this type of vessel lay in the range of about 13 knots. Operational speed for mine hunting and sweeping are in the order of 6-7 knots and lower. Furthermore the ships must be capable to follow very accurately specified tracks during these operations (i.e. at low speeds) and in a seaway. This part is governing the design of the propulsion and steering system. Requirements for low signatures will often govern the design of the propulsion system.

Services & Activities
MARIN is involved in the development of the hull form optimisation, the speed/power performance and studies cavitation and noise & vibration.
The seakeeping performance especially focuses on following a track very accurately in relatively high sea states.
The stringent demands on the controllability, i.e. the steering ability and ship & platform motions for the various degrees of freedom can be analysed by our manoeuvring experts.
The Nautical Centre MSCN offers training of the crew and the simulation of special situations.
The Trials & Monitoring Department is involved in in-service performance monitoring, cavitation observation, noise & vibration measurements and measures loads & responses.
