Abstract
Regarding design for service as a competitive edge for both ship builder and ship owner, the present paper addresses the problem of expressing the hydrodynamic characteristics of a design in the operational performance. A detailed deterministic reproduction of the vessel’s in-service performance by means of scenario simulations is presented as a solution to account for the details of wind-wave interaction and prudent seamanship. In addition to backgrounds for the development the paper describes practical results and targeted developments.
