Using in service performance monitoring, the ship owner can make a comparison between the ship's design conditions and the actual ship performance, including the environmental conditions it encounters on its voyages. Reasons to perform in service performance monitoring are e.g. more accurate scheduling of docking and optimization of vessel routing.

- Wave radars and wave buoys for wave conditions
- Marine Quality Kit (MQK) for 6 d.o.f. wave frequency motions
