Sea Trial
General Information
During the delivery trials the ship will be tested on hydrodynamic aspects such as speed power performance, manoeuvring behaviour, noise and vibrations which are contractually specified. All these aspects have to be measured accurately for the acceptance of the ship by the owner.

The Trials & Monitoring department has a long track record in measuring delivery trials as independent party. During the delivery trials MARIN can assist by measuring and analyzing the following:
- Speed and power measurements including all corrections for environmental conditions
- Manoeuvring measurements and analysis in accordance with IMO and delivery of wheelhouse poster
- Noise and vibration measurements and analysis in accordance with ISO regulations
- Cavitation observation of the propeller
Facilities & Tools
The following tools are used by MARIN for measuring the delivery trials:
The following tools are used by MARIN for measuring the delivery trials:
- Power Measuring System (PMS) for torque and RPM
- DGPS for speed and position
- Wave radars and wave buoys for wave conditions
- Marine Quality Kit (MQK) for 6 d.o.f. motions (e.g. roll angles and rate of turn during manoeuvring trials)
- Spectrum analyser for vibration measurements
- High speed underwater video equipment for cavitation observation
The following tools are used by MARIN to analyse the delivery trials:
- Recommended Practice and Recommended Analysis for speed trials
- QSTAP software for speed trials (available on request)
- ManVis sofware for manoeuvring trials
