Abstract
The current paper presents results obtained with a 3-D boundary element method which is being developed for the analysis of cavitating marine propellers. A description of the implemented mathematical model for sheet cavitation is given and results of verification and validation studies are presented for both steady wetted and steady cavitating flow. The verification study is made for wetted flow using the classical analytical solution for an ellipsoid. The pressure distributions for wetted flow are validated for the DTMB P4119 propeller. For cavitating flow, grid refinement studies are presented and validation studies are carried out for two propellers for which experimental data is available for open water conditions: the MARIN S-Propeller and the INSEAN E779A propeller. The computed cavity layout shows good agreement with the experimental data for both propellers at various advance coefficients and cavitation numbers.
