Abstract
Correct performance of sea trials and trial analysis is of crucial importance for both shipyard and ship operator. This not only for contractual matters, but also to obtain reliable feed back for the design process and information for the operational costs of the ship. In this paper the status of the current speed trial correction process and methods is discussed. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the available methods in the process for yards, contractors and owners of ships and support them in the choice of methods and correction process for various ship types and conditions.

The conclusions show that a separate treatment of the various components in the correction and that, especially for wave and wind corrections, additional research and validation in the form of calculations or model tests will improve the final result of the speed trials significantly.
