By limiting her availability and on-board activities and through motion induced fa-tigue and seasickness, poor seakeeping af-fects the sheer enjoyment of a yacht. Good handling in more extreme conditions con-tributes greatly to safety.
The present paper summarizes lessons learned in the course of a long history of seakeeping tests. It discusses the basics of motor yacht seakeeping, the techniques and merits of motion control and related design and research issues.
