This paper presents computational results of the flow around the Japanese Bulk Carrier (JBC). All requested cases of the Tokyo Workshop 2015 were completed (Case 1.1 to 1.8). The URANS computations were performed with the CFD code ReFRESCO. The free surface was modelled using an interface capturing approach, combined with an interface sharpening courant independent scheme called ReFRICS. Dynamic trim and sinkage was taken into account by deforming the grid, while sliding grids were used to explicitly model the propeller rotation.
The overall agreement with the experiments for all cases is judged to be good. The experimentally obtained power reduction of 6.0% due to the duct was predicted to be 3.2% by the CFD.
