MARIN Report 94: special on fuel consumption
Given the soaring oil prices, one issue is never far from the minds of our clients is the cost of fuel. Certainly, any means to reduce fuel consumption is a focus at MARIN. MARIN has taken this opportunity to present several special developments that can impact fuel consumption. Just a few of the topics covered include, a look at how DP vessels can save fuel, how transom stern designs affect fuel usage and the question if slowing down is always the answer to combat climbing oil prices.

MARIN is participating in the EU project CREATE3S, which aims to bring down the cost of shortsea shipping by introducing new manufacturing and design techniques. Furthermore, we hosted the launch of the “Inland shipping fuel saving competition” - a project that has been initiated by the Dutch government.

Another theme readers will notice in this issue is our focus on Yachting. Report outlines our consultancy role as the yachting industry gets ever more innovative. We outline some of the ways our state-of-the-art research facilities are being deployed by yacht builders, owners and operators.
