On 16 July 2010 a new Compact Manoeuvring Simulator was inaugurated by Malta's Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi at the Malta Transport Centre in Marsa. After training at MSCN, MARIN in the Netherlands, the simulator was ordered at Maritime Simulation & Software Group (MSG) by the Malta Maritime Pilots coop. “To be able reinforce our pilots’ skills, but also improve the various port services offered by the Maltese ports, making them more attractive to large companies,” explained Capt Jesmond Mifsud, head of MMP.
One of the port services is to provide the opportunity for cruise companies to train manoeuvres with accurate hydrodynamic models of their cruise vessels on this advanced training and research simulator. The simulator exists of five 110” Visual Display Units which provide a 300˚ rear-projection screen and two sideview LCD widescreens for berthing manoeuvres. Together with the compact deskconsole and COTS based PC’s, it fits easily in an office building such as the Malta Transport Centre. Further information can be found in our updated capability statement. Other examples of delivered simulators can be found here .
