Recently we received the devastating news that Mr. Igor Ponomarev, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to IMO and Chairman of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has died suddenly at the age of 41. We would like to express our sincerest condolences to Mr. Ponomarev's family.
On behalf of IMO, Mr. Ponomarev would have given his vision on future ship regulations, during our jubilee symposium ‘Future Waves’ on April 18, 2007. Unfortunately the announcement of his decease did not reach us in time. As a result of this his name is still mentioned in our official invitation.
We deeply regret the loss of Mr. Ponomarev and the awkward situation, which has been arisen by mentioning his name in our formal invitation.
