Hurricane IKE more powerful than Ivan, Rita & Katrina
MARIN’s monitoring system on the Marco Polo TLP, which is 160 miles South of New Orleans in a 1,300 m water depth, has successfully captured the behaviour of the platform and the wave, wind and current conditions during the passage of Hurricane IKE in September, 2008.

Data from the ongoing Marco Polo JIP revealed that wave conditions during IKE were even more severe than those recorded during Ivan, Rita and Katrina. Platform, riser and tether motions, structural response and fatigue have all been carefully monitored by the project team since the installation of the platform in 2004. The Marco Polo platform
has survived all hurricanes so far with only minor damage.
