On May 29 a special boat was introduced at the river Amstel: the Delta Lloyd Solar Boat. The boat has been developed and built by seven students of Delft University. As one of the main sponsors, MARIN advised the team by optimizing the resistance and propulsion characteristics of the solar boat design and by producing the model and propellor.
The Delta Lloyd Solar Boat Team will participate in the Frisian Solar Challenge, June 21-28. The race is a variaton of the legendary Dutch Eleven Cities Skating Race (Elfstedentocht). Dutch and international teams will navigate the Frisian waterways over a distance of almost 200 km, passing eleven Frisian cities. 49 teams will participate from 8 different countries. Delft University was the winning team of the race in 2006.
