A milestone: 1,000 RAPID projects completed

MARIN has had a record year in 2008, with several significant milestones achieved.

Computer program RAPID, MARIN’s fully non-linear potential flow solver, has been in use for commercial projects since 1993 and recently the 1,000th RAPID project was successfully completed.

RAPID is used for computing the wave profile and wave resistance of a ship in an early design stage. It facilitates a quick assessment of changes in resistance, trim and sinkage due to design changes. RAPID has therefore become an integral part of most MARIN projects concerning resistance and propulsion.

The recent milestone means that MARIN has investigated, changed and optimised the hull form in a 1,000 projects and it shows that RAPID is a very successful tool, providing good solutions for many customers.
