SAFETUG II announced by MARIN

During the years 2005-2007, the SAFETUG joint industry project has been carried out. In one of the SAFETUG meetings the participants decided on a possible continuation of the SAFETUG project as a follow-up program called SAFETUG II.
It was decided to finish SAFETUG I first and extend a possible start of the new project not earlier than at the end of 2007. The SAFETUG II proposal is a result of a number of discussions that took place during 2007 in order to create a sound proposal with clear tasks.

The groups’ feeling was that this exceptionally good gathering of knowledgeable people is worth taking up a number of new and remaining tasks that the whole group would see as valuable to do after finalising SAFETUG I.
The main reason for this follow-up is to cover one of the remaining important subjects of the SAFETUG I project being the collection of knowledge around the directions in tug design to be taken in order to improve its operations in waves. A second important reason is the finalization of the developed operability assessment concepts for berthing and escorting (calculation schemes for the determination of the downtimes both through filling a few gaps and a further elaboration on the winches and the operations (criteria)).
