General Information
Ships and offshore structures often suffer from fatigue damage. This is caused by the fact that the actual fatigue performance depends on many factors which are uncertain during design.

Service & Activities
MARIN can assist designers and operators of marine structures. Our services and activities focus on determination and control of hydro-dynamic fatigue loading. Our Hydro-Structural Services (HSS) advices also on other factors like vibration induced fatigue.

MARIN can assist designers and operators of marine structures. Our services and activities focus on determination and control of hydro-dynamic fatigue loading. Our Hydro-Structural Services (HSS) advices also on other factors like vibration induced fatigue.
With respect to fatigue we can:
- Determine hydro-dynamic fatigue loading which is needed in the design stage. This includes sectional forces, motion induced accelerations and wave pressures.
- Estimate fatigue lifetime of structural details
- Advice on fatigue safety factors
- Design, install and operate Hull Monitoring Systems (HMS) which measure factors influencing fatigue lifetime consumption
- Design, install and operate Advisory Monitoring Systems (HMS) which control and explain fatigue lifetime consumption
- Provide decision support towards Inspection, Repair and Maintenance (IRM)
- Troubleshoot fatigue issues
Facilities & Tools
Our service is facilitated by:
Our service is facilitated by:
- Model testing in the Seakeeping & Manoeuvring Basin using segmented models that allow, among others, for measurement of sectional forces
- Numerical calculations using hydro-dynamic software like DIFFRAC that calculates hydro-dynamic loading
- Direct fatigue calculations using STRUC software utilizing 3D Finite Element Analysis coupled with 3D hydro-dynamic software (PRECAL)
- Hull Monitoring Systems
- On board advisory systems as Octopus-Monitas
- Install and operate passive fatigue lifetime consumption sensors (Fatigue Damage Sensors - FDS, developed by Kawasaki)
Software Sales
Octopus-Monitas software is available for commercial use
