General information
At the end of the field life, offshore structures have to be decommissioned. Regularly this is a delicate operation, as most of the structures have not been designed to be removed. During the years of operations their structural integrity might have been affected. The challenge of decommissioning has resulted in a number of interesting new decommissioning concepts. On the other hand also extisting crane vessels are used for this operation. Recently MARIN was involved in several heavy-lift projects concerning the removal of fixed structures from North Sea oil and gas fields.

Services & Activities
The Offshore Department offers model tests and simulations of decommissioning projects. With the dedicated LIFSIM program it is able to assist the engineering. Complex models and instrumentation are used to test these operations in the basin.
The Trials & Monitoring Department can be involved in decommisioning projects, to measure full-scale loads and motions.
