Ship Trial Investigations
General information
The determination of the ship’s performance through the measurement of power and propulsion at sea is often the last step in the design cycle. Accurate performance of speed trials and measurement of all environmental conditions is of crucial importance to the analysis of speed trials. MARIN was involved in the Sea Trial Analysis Joint Industry Project (STA-JIP). Leading ship owners and yards joined this project to increase the standard of speed trials. The result of the project is a high quality standard for Speed Trial Practice and Analysis.

Services & Activities
The Trials & Monitoring department is very experienced in speed trial measurements. The aim of the STA-JIP was to establish transparent & accurate methods for speed/power performance trials of ships upon delivery by yard. This STA-JIP has resulted in a new industry standard for conducting and analyzing sea trials including transparent and accurate methods for correcting of conditions deviating from the contract such as displacement, wind and waves.

Facilities & Tools
