MARIN Design and Sailing Contest 2010

Introduction

Together with Delft University of Technology (TUDelft) and INHOLLAND, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) organised a design contest. The aim of this contest was to design, manufacture and sail the fastest model sailing boat in Wageningen.

Results
The results of this contest, which took place on January 15th, 2010, are as follows:






The contest was won by Team 10 from Delft University of Technology with the Green Dragon. Stephanie van den Brink, Wouter Dubois and Robert Hooft managed to design, build and sail a catamaran that was both fast and manoeuvrable.
The second place went to Delft University of Technology Team 1, consisting of Hans van Loon, Ad van Hoeve, Jan Willem Feitsma and Michiel Dondorp with their catamaran Panther. The third place was for Roerkoningen from Team 13 (Menko Teunis, Mark Venhuis, Jeroen van der Sande and Dominique Sernets) from INHOLLAND.

Innovation prize

An additional prize was available for the most innovative design. This prize was awarded to the Pegasus, by the Delft University of Technology team 9 consisting of Kevin de Boom, Stefan Goossens, Joost Schot and Bouke Krom. The Innovation Cup was provided by Gerard Dijkstra and Partners and handed to the teammembers by Mark Leslie-Miller. The winner of the innovation prize is invited to present his concept on the MARIN booth during the SMM Fair in Hamburg, which will take place from 7 through 10 November 2010.
