20th Numerical Towing Tank Symposium (NuTTS 2017)

Wageningen, Netherlands, 1-3 October 2017

This year, MARIN is organising the 20th Numerical Towing Tank Symposium.
The conference covers the numerical simulation of flows around ships and offshore structures, with a strong link to realistic applications.
The objective of the event is to provide a forum for informal discussions among experts in the field and to disseminate latest results. Younger workers and Ph.D. students are especially encouraged to participate. The event will be held at the Hotel Wageningsche Berg in Wageningen . All participants stay and have meals together to maximise interaction and discussion.

On the Sunday morning (1st October), a tour of MARIN’s facilities will be arranged for participants who have arrived in advance of the start of the conference. In addition, a tour of the Royal IHC shipyard in Kinderdijk is planned for Tuesday afternoon, after the official close of the conference. Both of these events will require a pre-registration.

The extended abstracts of the proposed talks will be directly reproduced in pdf proceedings. Work in progress, encountered problems, etc. should be discussed in an open, informal atmosphere (no ties!) among colleagues. Instructions for preparing the abstracts can be found in the templates provided. An early reply will help us in organising the event better; for the early feedback, a tentative title or topic will suffice. A desire to attend one or both of the proposed tours can also be indicated in early feedback. Please note that the number of participants of the tour of the Royal IHC shipyard is limited to 30.

Draft versions of the extended abstract must be submitted before the draft deadline. In order to allow a fair evaluation of papers in case a selection is needed, these draft papers must be at least 4 pages long. Finishing touches can be added up until the final deadline. Both deadlines are strict (Dutch strict!) since they are set as late as possible in order to allow enough time for processing the papers.
Please download the templates for the abstract/full-length paper.

The conference location can easily be reached by train and bus from the major airports in the Netherlands. The journey time from Amsterdam Schiphol airport is approximately 1.5 hours. Participants may arrive from Saturday 30th September, with the technical sessions starting after lunch on Sunday 1st October, and the conference closing with lunch on Tuesday 3rd October.

Following the tradition of previous NuTTS events, the fees will be kept low to allow a maximum number of scientists to attend. The registration fees including accommodation (3 nights, including 30th September) and all meals during the symposium will be:

  • 350 Euro for PhD candidates and students
  • 400 Euro for authors
  • 450 Euro for other participants
  • Nonlinear flows around marine structures (LES, RANSE, Euler with or w/o free surface)
  • Free-surface flows around marine structures (3-d ship seakeeping, free-surface viscous flows)
  • Related topics (validation experiments, numerical techniques, grid generation, etc)
Early feedback (optional): 31st March 2017
Extended Abstracts, draft: 30th June 2017
Extended Abstracts, final version 22nd September 2017
Payment received: 4th August 2017
Registration will be opened soon.
